Common Rooms

For residents who want to watch a movie, play pool or just hang out, the Junior Common Room and Buttery are the places to go. The Buttery is open seven nights a week. The large-screen television in the JCR is perfect for watching sports (attracting huge audiences during the World Cup) or for watching a movie. If you don't like what's on the big screen, there are other TVs in other parts of the Hall, so there is usually a range of programmes to watch.

The Senior Common Room is the place to go for all-night movie marathons, for book club or for Packard wing wine and cheese or supper functions. It also has a regular delivery of newspapers and a kitchenette, so is the perfect place to unwind over coffee during the weekend. The Central Common Room has a TV and comfortable couches but is is also available for play rehersals and dance classes.

The Bernhard Neumann Room and the Mohay Room are function rooms located upstairs in Central Block. Residents can use these rooms for meetings, study groups, tutorials, formal dinners and other events.

The South Kitchen may be booked by residents to bake a cake, prepare a meal for a special occasion, for floor functions, Iron Chef competitions and other activities which build community spirit. It is a very valuable and much utilised space, especially by residents in the catered wings.

Residents who would like to hold functions, meetings, rehearsals or tutorials in different common rooms around Bruce can reserve the rooms on-line using our Room and Bus booking system on our intranet.
