Arts at Bruce Hall

Some people like to do creative things, like take photos and or paint and
Bruce Hall caters for that. We have a Dark Room in Bottom
Extension. Residents can develop their own film and print their own black and
white photos. The key to the Dark Room is available from the Hall Administrator.
We also have an Art Room between East and South wings and
several Music Rooms in Central Wing. Music students are also
welcome to play the grand piano in the Dining Hall. Residents who regularly use
these rooms may sign for a key from the Hall Administrator.
An Interhall Arts Shield competition is held each year.
Bruce Hall is a keen contender, and won the Arts Shield in 2006
at the final event. All residents are encouraged to get out and have a go, which
is regarded as much more important than being an expert in the field. Residents
are also encouraged to attend these events to offer support to those who are
representing the Hall. This all pays off, not only in tremendous achievements,
but it also plays a major part in promoting the Bruce Hall spirit.
The Arts Shield calendar includes events such as debating, public speaking,
chess, art competitions, creative writing, theatre sports and a talent night.
The Arts Reps of the Common Room Committee are responsible for
organising the teams for each of the Arts shield events.
